Phoenix, AZ- A United States Coast Guard H-60, Jayhawk, helicopter will demonstrate rescue techniques at Lake Pleasant on May 17, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. The helicopter from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Diego will deploy rescue swimmers into the lake demonstrating current air-sea rescue practices. Arizona based Coast Guard Auxiliary vessels (that report to Coast Guard Sector San Diego) will provide a security zone to ensure spectator safety. The Coast Guard demonstration is part of the 5th Annual Arizona Safe Boating Celebration jointly sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Phoenix Sail and Power Squadron, Arizona Game & Fish Department, and Maricopa County Parks.


Learning how to operate a boat safely and avoiding excessive speed, alcohol, and carbon monoxide poisoning will be featured a this years Celebration. Free boat safety checks taking less than 15 minutes will be provided offered by qualified Coast Guard Auxiliary and U. S. Power Squadron members. The first 200 vessels that checked will receive a discount coupon for park future entry. Various product giveaways, mini-boating safety seminars, and related activities will help add to this great family outing.
