Coast Guard Auxiliarists Presented Awards by National Water Safety Congress

SAN DIEGO, Calif, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-6 in District 9ER; along with their partners the Alum Creek Lake Staff, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Central Ohio Safe Boating Council; and the Columbus Sail and Power Squadron were presented the Region One Award of Merit by the National Water Safety Congress (NWSC) at the International Boating & Water Safety Summit (IBWSS) in San Diego on April 18. Collectively, the group’s boating safety programs improved safe boating on Berlin Lake in Ohio.
Coast Guard Auxiliary Member David Esparza, who serves in Phoenix area of Arizona was presented with a Letter of Commendation. Esparza’s efforts in boating safety as an instructor, a qualification examiner and conducting safety/security patrols significantly contributed to making Arizona’s waterways safer and more enjoyable by those who use them.
Each year NWSC presents awards at the IBWSS to selected individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to water safety during the previous year. The National Water Safety Congress has an extensive award program to recognize those people who contribute to the safety of everyone who enjoys water recreation. One regional award per NWSC region and a number of Letters of Commendation are presented.
Recognition of those who contribute substantially to water safety is encouraged to further promote water and boating safety, helping to reduce the number of drowning and boating accidents now occurring each year.
NWSC's extensive award program recognizes contributions of many water safety professionals and dedicated volunteers. This is an opportunity to say "Thank You" and to inspire others to continue to give their best for water safety!
